“It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring………….” she sings, loudly but not at all well, as she dances in the rain. It was raining. Not pouring. And the old man wasn’t snoring but, the birds we happily tweeting in the trees. I don’t like the cold but I do love the first good rain. I also love a fabulous find…………but you already knew that.
This weeks find, jewelry from Aril M. Actually, she found me and I am pleased as punch that she did. She was kind enough to loan and ship me a few pieces from her site. The pieces I chose were super cute on the site but in person……..wow……high quality craftsmanship, beautiful pieces. Check out the tweet…..ha, sweet……Love Birds necklace I’m wearing. You’ll find it on sale here. AND, April created a 10% off code just for my readers, DM10. This is good for 10% off your entire purchase now through December 10th, and is not limited to one purchase. Wowza! Thanks April!

Happy Monday friends! It was a very busy but beautiful weekend here in California. The rain came pouring down Saturday but cleared up on Sunday, leaving me a little window to take a few fashion shots.
I picked up this gorgeous 100% silk blouse at a designer sale just hours before these shots were taken. All Tracy Porter tops and skirts were $20 and jackets, $35. Man, I love a deal! And you know this wasn’t the only piece I bought. Stay tuned in the coming weeks to see more of her fabulous designs.
Style Tip :: As you know, I am a huge fan of mixing patterns. I also don’t mind mixing metals……..gold, silver and copper accessories. Mixing fabrics is another thing I love. Pure silk can be so fancy but it’s tamed when paired with a leather jacket and camo cargo pants.

Once upon a time my lil’ eyes spied the cutest pair of pink suede boots. I tried them on. They fit like a glove. And we lived happily ever after.
Style Tip :: It’s true, dark colors are slimming.Thank goodness ’cause I’ve been slacking on my cardio, ate half of a cheesecake (okay, it was a 4″ cake but still) and the gal in Taco Bells drive-thru window knows me by name.

I’m feeling more blessed that usual to live in the sunny state of California. As my fellow Americans in the east prepare for a storm so soon after suffering the devastation caused by Sandy, Southern Californian’s are experiencing 80-90 degree temps. I so wish I could push some of our warm, dry climate east. I can’t. I have zero control over mother nature. I can, and will, continue to pray for their continued efforts to recover. Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, right?
Style Tip :: Choose a favorite color and wear it head to toe in varying tints and shades. Add a belt at the slimmest par of your bodice and a pop of color purse. Voila, easy, chic style.
Wearing :: Adrianna Papell Dress (similar here, here, and here) :: Michael Stars Crop Sweater :: David’s Palm Beach Clutch :: Audrey Brooke Heels
Easy & Affordable Style for $ 105 :: Dress from TJ MAXX, Crop Sweater from Haute Look, Heels from DSW online and $3 vintage clutch from an estate sale
As much as I adore color and pattern, I do love a monochromatic look. The height that is created by wearing tints and shades of a single hue is so flattering. Vertically challenged? Already have height but want to create a slimmer and taller figure? Try it! Choose your favorite hue and wear varying shades of it from head to toe. Remember, darker colors are slimming and lighter colors are less forgiving of figure flaws. Shiny fabrics draw attention whereas dull fabrics hide.
Style Tip :: The skinny belt I am wearing here creates a figure eight shape yet does draw attention to my waist. If you prefer attention drawn elsewhere, wear a skinny belt in the same, non-patterned hue as your look.
Wearing :: Morgane Le FayTop :: New York & Company Cardigan :: INC Slacks :: Tahari Slippers :: Micheal Kors Belt :: JLo Necklace
Easy & Affordable Style for $145 :: $10 silk top from a friend, $30 cardigan, pants were given to me, $20 belt from TJ MAXX, $25 necklace from KOHLS, $60 shoes from DSW
Fashion is what you buy. Style is what you do with it.
One of the fabulous things about style is that it is individual. You and I can buy the same garment but wear it differently. My style tends to be classic with a bit of a twist. I adore vintage pieces, one of a kind garments, color, texture, mixing of patterns, high heels and accessories……..lots of accessories! You, however, may like casual, boho, rocker, business, punk, hippie, preppy, runway, urban, vintage, modest, haute couture, romantic, eclectic or elegant looks. Whew, what a list! Whatever your style……. love it, work it, own it!
Style Tip :: Add detail and pizzaz to your look by wearing a non-matching belt. This sweet lil’ blazer came with a matching belt but matchy-matchy is boring in my book so I wore a belt from a dress in the same colors. Try it yourself.

Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.

October 21 through October 27, 2012 is Character Counts week. No, it doesn’t mean that your character only counts one week of the year. Character counts all year round folks. But, the third week of every October 60 plus countries and millions of people celebrate the universal values we share…….Trustworthiness, Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship and Fairness. We, at the Stuart C. Gildred Family YMCA, share in the celebration by showcasing a value a day, each wearing the corresponding color. Today’s value is respect and its corresponding color, yellow. You understand that head-to-toe yellow would be…..well, gross. So, here’s how I styled yellow into my look de jour.
Style Tip :: I wore a striped button-front top under my dress and a long sleeve sweater over it. This 3 layer style kept me warm (you know how I loath the chill of fall and winter weather) without all the bulk and created a totally new look using a simple dress. See the dress alone here.
Wearing :: American Eagle Top :: Free People Dress :: New York & Company Sweater :: Diesel Boots :: Vintage Belt :: Handmade Silver Cuff
Hey………..I have a lil’ secret. Wanna know what it is?
My peplum……..it’s not! Well, it is BUT it was “born” a scarf.
One of the best parts of being a stylist (besides helping women look and feel their very best) is arriving home to boxes full of fab goodies on my porch. This week, Sara Smelt of Felt Evolution was kind enough to share a few of her one of kind, natural, eco-friendly, warm, breathable, soft, malleable and naturally antimicrobial scarves. Now that was a mouthful!
My design inspirations are numerous: the shapes of nature, a season, a mood, a painting, a challenge; but color is central to all my creations – I adore living life in color! – Sara Smelt
Do yourself a favor and check out her works of art. Wear as they’re meant to be….scarves……or play around as I did. You have to admit, this scarf makes a very pretty peplum.
Style Tip :: Learn to look at garments in ways they aren’t necessarily meant to be worn. Wear a shirt or dress backwards. Seriously, in Styling :: 50 Shades of Grey I wore my dress backwards because the neckline looked better underneath the blouse that way.

Where were you 125 years ago? I know, it’s a silly question. You and I may not have been here but two of the YMCA’s in my Channel Islands Association were. Last night, our Santa Barbara and Ventura branches celebrated 125 years of life changing programs and people. And what a celebration it was! Amazing displays of memorabilia, a phenomenal dinner, cocktails and, my favorite thing to do………dancing. And dance I did! Yet as fabulous as all of that was, celebrating our Y’s history, accomplishments, staff and volunteers was what made the evening so special. I am a true believer that life open doors that you need to enter. Even if it’s not the door you were knocking on. Seventeen years ago I hesitantly closed the door on my “dream job” (any guesses? you’ll never believe it. fire fighter!) and gave the Y a try. Thank God I did as the Y has blessed me with people, opportunities, life lessons, personal and career growth far greater than I could have ever imagined. Although my life opened doors in personal styling I will always have one foot in the door of the Y.
Style Tip :: Look for high-end garments in your local gently used consignment boutiques, designer discount stores (Ross, Marshalls’s, TJ Maxx and the like) or timed on-line sales. (Rue La La, Haute Look, and Gilt) I do!

The day had finally arrived. The day I’d been waiting an entire year for. I awoke early, completed my daily chores, dressed the part and with my hubby, surrounded by the warmth of the sun, attended the Buellton Vintage Trailer Bash. Wahoooo!
I knew it would be a fun afternoon but had no idea what was to come……….amazing vintage trailers, trucks, cars, bikes and memorabilia coupled with authentic, enthusiastic and kind people finished off with a trailer park wedding. Yes, a trailer park wedding and we attended. Wouldn’t you?
Style Tip :: When attending a trailer park wedding, even on accident, almost any style is welcome. Just do you!
